Artist Statement:
When painting wildlife, you must know your subject to the point you think they are human or you think you are one of them. I feel a deep sense of connection with their soul. My studio has often doubled as a wildlife refuge for injured or orphaned birds, baby rabbits, frogs, and even bats. Most of my paintings emerge from experiences I have during a field trip when I am so deeply touched, I feel compelled to preserve the moment so I can share it with you, the art viewer and collector, hoping my art will enrich your life as it does mine. Other times, an inner vision leads me to create a sanctuary for the wildlife I cherish, who, for various reasons, no longer can enjoy their wild freedom. My ultimate goal is to increase the public awareness of the pristine beauty of our natural world. So often, I feel their lives are regarded as not being as important as ours. Their habitats are violated and their misfortune disregarded. The need to preserve our environment, not only for our benefit, but for all the wildlife who share this planet with us, is unquestionably imperative.
